Loose-leaf green tea is the foundation of Moroccan tea culture, and the Sultan range offers several versions. The names can be confusing at first: Chaara, Jawhar, Al Bahia, Baroud, Assala, Al Atik. This article explains what they have in common, how they differ and how to brew them properly.
What Makes Moroccan Green Tea Different?
Moroccan mint tea is made from Chinese green tea, usually rolled into tight pellets (gunpowder style) or twisted leaves, then brewed strong with fresh mint and sugar. The leaf style affects how the tea unfurls, how fast it brews and how strong it tastes.
The Loose-Leaf Sultan Teas
Sultan Chaara
Chaara teas use a thin, twisted leaf. Our range includes Chaara Al Hiba Twist (200 g) and the larger Luxury Chaara 4011 (500 g), a good choice for families who drink tea every day.
Sultan Jawhar
Jawhar means “jewel” in Arabic. You can buy Jawhar (170 g) as a single pack, or the 3-pack if you want to stock up.
Sultan Al Bahia
Al Bahia is a twisted green tea sold in a 170 g pack.
Sultan Baroud
Baroud (200 g) takes its name from the Arabic word for gunpowder, the tightly rolled style used for classic Moroccan tea.
Sultan Assala and Al Atik
Assala and Al Atik are 200 g loose green teas for everyday brewing.
Taste and strength vary slightly between lines, so read each product page and try two or three to find your favourite.
